The craziest thing about Flint was that I didn’t even feel unsafe around these buildings. Outside of downtown, there was so rarely anyone else nearby. It’s like being stranded on an island where cars drive by every so often. The only thing that gave me concern was the condition of the building, and whether it would fall in on itself when I happened to be inside of it.
This past weekend I went with a group of UW-Milwaukee journalists to cover the water issues in Flint, Michigan. Water isn’t even when or where the problems started, and isn’t the only concern of the people of Flint.
